Homework and Weekly Blog Resources

Homework:

  • ELA:
    • Writing:  Use our SAT bonus word, salubrious, in a sentence that includes a comma and sentence variety.  Salubrious is an adjective that means "promoting health." 
    • Weekly LA homework:
      • Vocab:  Please study vocab each night so that by Thursday the children know the words well.
      • For spelling, please continue to practice at home, and in cursive handwriting.  Their writing declined last week without spelling contract. 
  • Math:
    • Time page front and back (it's on the hours only - be sure to be neat on the drawing hands side and that the hour hands are shorter than the minute hands)
    • HOTS POW - due Friday
  • Social Studies:
    • Finish lesson page if not completed in class - pg. 44 - chapter 8 lesson 4 page
    • Study for test :)  See study guide posts from last week!


MATH

We will take a Time Vocab quiz on Wednesday.  TAG will take it in the AM before they leave. 

Time Vocabulary
1 day = 24 hours
1 hour = 60 minutes
1 minute = 60 seconds
1 quarter hour = 15 minutes
1 half hour = 30 minutes
A.M. = in between midnight and noon (ante meridiem)
P.M. = in between noon and midnight (post meridiem)
Quarter past = 15 past the current hour
Quarter till = 15 minutes until the next hour
Half past = 30 minutes past the current hour
Hour hand = little hand on the clock that shows what hour it is
(rotates around the clock 1 time in 12 hours)
Minute hand = the longer hand on the clock that shows minutes
(rotates around the clock 1 time in 60 minutes)
Elapsed time = the total amount of time that passes from the beginning time to the ending time


Today we began Unit 6 in math.  It is a 23 day until, which has us testing tentatively around next Wednesday for the time portion of the test (TAG will test Tuesday), and the final SAMS unit test on Friday, March 9.
