Wed 10/31 HW

Happy Halloween!  I know I have been pumping the kids up with candy (hehe!) but please don't let them bring candy tomorrow.  I said one tiny piece is ok, but not a ton please.  November 1, one of those days that's realllllly fun to be a teacher. ;)

ELA:  spelling contract (I would do it tomorrow night-have fun tonight!!  hehe!!)

Math:  Review Page (I only sent home homework because we have a quiz tomorrow, otherwise I would have skipped it.  It's only 15 questions, and 5 of them are thinkers.)

SS:  Study! (hopefully you have been studying the whole week so tonight you can have more time to trick-or-treat!)

Science minded thinkers:  I need your help!!!
The Atlanta EPA will be coming out to our school to talk to our students.  Each class will be responsible to generate 2 questions to be asked at the presentation.  They are discussing the local environment and recycling.  Please submit questions to me via email!!!

Reflections:
I am so proud of my students who entered in submissions to this year's contest.  My class had the highest participation!  :)

Spelling Contract - the kids just have to make sure to write the words on the contract itself because I gave them time in class today to do this evening's assignment.

Math:  distributive property page front and back

Study for ss - announcement - Test is Friday!  Enjoy extra studying time!!!!

See you tonight at Chick Fil A!!!!!!!!!!!  I will be selling calendars from 5:15-6:15!!!!!!

Here is a throw back of Ms. Hoger and I from a few years ago!  (Look at how tiny the Michaelis boys are in the bottom corner!!)

Thank you for your patience while I was gone! I am so proud of how wonderful the children were!!!

As my way to say thank you, I brought back each child a rock from Israel as we just finished our study of rocks and minerals.  I also dated the rock and wrote "Israel" on it, just like Bud's grandfather did in "Bud, Not Buddy."
I also brought back cans from Palestine to show the kids the Arabic writing on the cans as well as salt from the Dead Sea!  They loved it!!

Today we had the privilege to hear one of my Serafin alumna students share her beautiful writing with the class.  We were very impressed by Naomi's imagery and sensory details, among other fantastic writer's crafts that she included!  Kids start to fall in love with writing here!!!

Our writing focus is, "Capture the Moment"  by describing the event to the reader rather than just telling them.  To practice, we conducted scientific research using the finest materials (Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids) to write to capture the moment!   ;)

Spelling

Everyone has the same words this week.  They coordinate with our affixes of the week, which are -tion and -sion.

We will have an affix or two of the week to increase our word wizardry!  Please point out words to your kids all week with the suffix -sion/-tion.

Next week, the students will be learning about Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, and Mary McCleod Bethune.  The study guide is posted on the blog already, and they will receive their copy on Monday.  The test is Wednesday, Oct. 31.  If you want to keep some consistency while there is no homework next week, reviewing the study guide wouldn'y hurt.

Remind your kids that they are amazing and brilliant, and they will do a wonderful job on the ITBS as long as they try their best!  Have them in bed early and eat a healthy breakfast!  The kids can eat a portable breakfast in the classroom next week if yall do not have time to eat at home!  We won't have snack until 10:30, so they will be hungry!!
